Synopsis
A contemporary piece with a focus not only on relationships but also perceptions, assumptions and at times, prejudice.
In each room we meet a new group facing different challenges and in some ways life lessons.
The Lounge Room by Ross McCorkell. Dee and Richard live in the outer suburbs. Richard is the decision maker of the marriage and to his detriment is of the opinion that only he knows what is best for the family. Dee as a stay at home Mum is suffocating in her designated role in the marriage and isolation. With the courage to take her future in her own hands she is determined to begin a new life.
Just a Couple aka The Bar Room by Ross McCorkell. Chaz and Bill have been drinking mates for years. Ryan has been their barman for just as many. Over a few beers, Bill shares the betrayal he feels after reading a copy of a book his son has published. A distorted recollection of his father through manipulated eyes. Chaz in his attempt to understand Bill’s life choices confronts his naïve prejudice and gains an insight that changes his view of the world. With the support of Ryan, Bill can finally share who he really is.
Penguin Blues aka The Rehab Room by Ethan Phillips. Sister Angelita and Gordon are two strangers who are forced to meet as part of their treatment in a rehabilitation facility. Being Catholic is the only thing they believe they have in common. Sister Angelita is to a degree fascinated by Gordon’s experiences, yet feels emotionally threatened by him. Gordon on the other hand sees only childhood terror and bitterness in the presence of a nun. Both grow to appreciate each other’s trauma and with that, each begins to heal.
